In these dark times, nothing like recreating artwork in which black is the main feature. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade?, well, yes because these are times of collective frustration and crisis in which it is more necessary than ever the refuge in the sublimity of art and the artistic creation. Dark times… art in black.
We are not going to present a technical debate about whether or not black is a color, because all we perceive it as such. We dress with it (it is the paradigm of elegance, the color of mourning and grief ), we designate a race with it, we “go black” (beyond the tanned color by the sun, or very angry or tired ), we adore the black film and the thrillers, not to mention black music and black tobacco addicts, like there are dark days, those who work like slaves, and the worst is when they are also black this or that writer that takes fame; there are even some people who turn to black magic or avoid crossing paths with a black cat and black is the color of the pirate’s flag.
In this exhibition, we juxtapose artists with marked and well-known personalities, known by the followers of STOA through works of multiple themes and nominations: informality, matteric, conceptualism, hyper-realism, magical realism, surrealism, mores…, preparatory studies and sketches, figures, landscape, still life…; varied techniques and supports are shown: the traditional charcoals and pencils on paper, along with exquisite inks on parchment paper; subtle watercolors alongside modern acrylics and oils with sill; linocuts and woodcuts hobnobbing with digital work; mixed techniques with collages…
