COLLOQUIUM

Dual exhibition of Juan Manuel Alvarez Cebrian and Javier Infantes, curated by Conchi Alvarez. From 4th of November until 27th of January

Promoting meetings of works of art is one of the most fascinating exhibition practices. In this case, we propose a dialogue between paintings of two Spanish artists that show their disparate genealogy from the first look, but with an interesting and attractive narrative that promises to enrich this colloquium.

On the one hand, works of the figurative sphere, works of the Madrilenian Juan Manuel Álvarez Cebrián, that roam between the magical realism, a subtle surrealism and even a certain symbolism. Nude female figures appear in mythological scenes in an enveloping Turner style atmosphere, women who go beyond, and bare their souls in interiors of neat, classic, always subjugating compositions, enigmatic and suggestive females that invite you to piece together, to unravel the signs and symbols that fill each scene, and generate, in the spectator, the desire to create his own story.  Next to the oil paintings of female figure, the gender of the landscape, with several oil paintings on boards in which the pigeon loft is the protagonist. An unique Architecture , full of beauty, which the author pays a bright tribute with works which trap and invite you into an Arcadia of absent nymphs and envisaged bucolic scenes.  The series of four small pigeon loft in different moments, light and chromatic, necessarily, remember that made by Monet of the Cathedral of Rouen.

On the other hand, we have very different conversations that represent the abstract works of the artist Javier Infantes from Estepona, belonging to the  informalist phase of the author. Canvases and boards of mixed media and ink on parchment, possessed of an extraordinary power, and an immediate impact.  Impossible to pass by and ignore its forcefulness. Here, the scale is galactic, and forms suggest implosions, stellar explosions and Astral spheres. But as it is the case with the great works, which you never end to see, look, observe and apprehend all that enclose, these parts promise visions and revisions in a sidereal infinite. The forms, in Javier, go more beyond of the apparent and already one can perceive here the fascination of the artist by the complex functioning of the brain. Indeed, much of the work of Javier delves into the depths of memory, feelings, sensations, trying to give form, light and colour to the boiler in constant boiling process that is our brain. To imagine the colour of the cold,  of the fear, the form of the furore, the fear or the provocation, the light that has the sweet flavour, the memory of an effusiveness… and the result, works in which the elegance dominates, the mastery, sensorial and pleasant, timeless works.
