“EAST WIND” is the first collective exhibition of Korean artists in STOA. It is the result of the collaboration with the Clu Gallery of Los Angeles, specializing in Korean artists, and the Dongduk Gallery in Seoul, also representing Korean artists. The impetus of their respective curators, Jin Hyoung Kim (Clu Gallery) and Monica Hie Yeon Yun, curator and professor at the Visual Art Institute Dongduk Woman’s University, together with STOA´s curator, Conchi Álvarez, have developed a cooperation that enriches and internationalizes the three galleries.
It is a sample of ten artists of very different techniques, themes and formats, a selection of the best and most representative of Korean art, encouraged by these two galleries. The title of the exhibition is inspired by the iconic novel by Pearl S. Buck, “East Wind, West Wind”, that brought us to the East, and generated an attraction to distant Asia that grows and grows as we enter its complex universe. This first approach to Korean art confirms its high quality, deep spirituality and, in many cases, the perfect symbiosis between traditional Korean art and the use and knowledge of the latest technologies and artistic techniques. The simple reading of the names of the artists already evokes a far and distant world, but at the same time attractive and seductive.
