From those people who do not participate in social life because of the technological barrier that old age represents, as in the case of Conchi Alvarez&#8217;s paintings; the use and abuse of these new technologies to isolate themselves, in the case of the youngest, like the girl in the Adidas T-shirt by Salustiano; or by the barrier that these new technologies represent for almost any age, turning the ignorant into disabled and handicapped for most everyday tasks, as Diego Cerero&#8217;s pieces denounce.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Diego Cerero is a young artist who has recently started working with STOA. His portraits are striking and surprising because of the size of the pieces, but above all because of the enormous size of the heads, which almost overflow the canvases. He uses a striking composition with only one element: the face, as the backgrounds are neutral and almost flat. Far from the traditional genre portrait and even more so from the classical canon, the new proportion that Diego proposes\u00a0 is a colossal head, almost two metres long, which would correspond to a human figure of 14 metres. This gigantism is a marvellous promotion of the message that Diego wants to convey, as well as the exaggerated gestures that they usually show, since it is impossible to escape his call for attention.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Diego manages to make the viewer \u201cwork\u201d by not letting them pass by his work, awakening the dormant or anaesthetised critical spirit in the face of a reality saturated with the inconsistencies of the consumer society and the use and abuse of new technologies. Diego&#8217;s youth gives him a privileged position from which to observe and denounce, in caricatured portraits full of humour and intelligence, how the advance of new technologies is relegating people who are still active, who now join the large group of individuals who are become isolated and frustrated by the impossibility of communicating, in caricatured portraits full of humor and intelligent criticism.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Conchi \u00c1lvarez, artist and curator, presents in her series \u201cWatching life go by\u201d, portraits of the best observers, the most genuine, the elderly. The majority of them, having already left active life, are therefore considered retired, and this word, which comes from the word &#8220;joy&#8221;, implies enormous joy and happiness, although this is not usually the case. This series suggests different ways of \u201cWatching life go by\u201d when the Third Age comes. They are, as far as this series has gone, people from the rural world, which means that this problem of lack of communication caused by new technologies is exacerbated by living far from the city.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The artist surprises these elderly people, inhabitants of small towns, some of them with less than 100 inhabitants, at certain moments of great sociability, at the town festivals, most of the time absorbed in themselves, but perfectly extrapolated to the millions of elderly people who populate the world. Sometimes they look at us from a very deep inner world, surprised by our presence; others plunge into their memories because that is an asset that cannot be taken away from them. They are figures full of dignity who observe from a point of view that only comes with time, from a space that has accumulated years and years of life experience. Some look at life with indifference, peacefully waiting for the final moment, others long for lost youth, all from an isolation from the external &#8220;noise&#8221;, from a hostile world in which new technologies become not allies, but aggressors, trampling on individualism and the dignity of people by relegating them to dependence on others for the simplest tasks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Salustiano is an internationally acclaimed artist whose paintings, executed with exquisite technique, evoke, attract, and recall the purest sense of beauty. The tondo format, or ovoid shape, as in this case, is a tribute to the great works of the Italian Renaissance. Salustiano is a priest of beauty with an unmistakable, timeless way of painting. A contemporary classic. If the painters of the Quattrocento painters could be divided into two groups, poets and scientists, Salustiano would belong to both. His works are an exercise in technical perfectionism that could remind us of Masaccio or Piero de la Francesca, but also the lyricism of Fra Angelico, achieving classical portraits, but with a brilliant contemporaneity. The woman we present by Salustiano would be an example of the negative use of new technologies, of their despotism. Dressed in her Adidas T-shirt, she looks at us from the indifference that their abuse produces, to promote a distance not only physical but also in communication, clad in her music headphones. Her beauty attracts and invites the spectator to approach, who can only be fascinated by the perfection of the execution, but who is aware that this contemporary Venus is out of
