 EL CANTE BECOME COLOUR

SECOND PERFORMANCE-CLOSING OF III BIENAL DE FLAMENCO OF MALAGA IN ESTEPONA

7th SEPTEMBER OF 2013, 22,00 HOURS

THE PLACE: EL PATIO- ESTEPONA

The second performance of “El Cante become Colour” is the consolidation of a project that arose from the encounter between two artists, the singer Ana Fargas and the painter Conchi Alvarez. Conchi´s paintings of the series on flamenco women were the starting point to move the inspiration for Ana, who, in a private performance in the painter’s studio, poured out all the creative torrent of her magical voice, in turn making the painter boost a waterfall of that was canalized and focused on the figure of Ana, and that’s how the song became color in four works of art: “Ana”, the portrait of the
singer; “Magnificat”, paradigm of the female song of praise with a flamenco style; “Quejío”, translating the deepest feelings, the heartbreaking siguiriya, and “Debla” the Flamenco goddess.

That female dialogue was the first performance, which took place at Stoa, in which the main character was La Fargas, accompanied by the master guitar player Paco Javier Jimeno, with the backdrop of 12 of Conchi´s paintings on flamenco women. The four acrylic on panel paintings, specifically about Ana,were then added.

The impetus for the second performance came from Ana in connection with the closing of the III Biennial of Flamenco Art in Malaga, which took place in Estepona. All the acts of this Biennial were held at El Patio, an exquisite venue for flamenco lovers. That is why the second performance of “El Cante become Colour” was held at El Patio, on the 7th of September, at 22.00 hours, with the presence and support of the authorities and institutional representatives.

Ana’s proposition delights Conchi and starts a creative machine in an overflowing process which makes it difficult to systematize so many good ideas. The signals between the two artists is such, that they only need a glance, a gesture, the beginning of a word or phrase and the script seems to write itself, at breakneck speed, as if the inspiration, installed between them, were the driver. When Ana brings into the narrative two of her students, the inspiration takes an anthropomorphic form: a blonde
beauty in the case of the painting, and a brunette beauty for flamenco. Two adorable girls, who are quickly incorporated into the overall composition, providing an extraordinary freshness and scenical richness.

In this second performance all the paintings are focused on Ana Fargas, as she gathers in her art, the whole female world, adding three new works of art to the four of the first “El Cante become Colour”.
The most personal, deepest and heartfelt is undoubtedly “La Nana Flamenca”, the lullaby of a mother who is first invaded by sadness, fear, pain, giving way, then, to hope, vital optimism, settling on a universal song about motherhood. Painting and Song united in a deep empathy generating an iconic piece of music. “Enamorándote” (Falling in love) recreates the essence of female seduction: a turn, an airy shawl flight…and just a look to seduce the beloved man. “Entérate!” (Find out!), however, is the warning to the beloved in the game of seduction.

Ana composes and proposes a great program where the great Jimeno gains more and more presence and parts, where more performers and creators have been added, Sergio Monroy on the piano and Chico Fargas with percussions, achieving a rounded out show, of such sublime beauty and striking for the richness and depth of the feelings, and the excellence during the execution. “El Cante become Colour” has become a ship, where Ana and Conchi are carried by the river of creation. A ship where the inspiration takes the helm and … not knowing the destination port.
