… FROM THE FEMININITY
It is the first solo exhibition in our country of this young French painter Julie Alegre, curated by Conchi Alvarez.
The exhibition brings together 31 works: 22 inks and 9 oils; two different techniques for two themes based on the common fascination for the Mediterranean, both from North Africa (the 9 oil paintings on the medinas and oasis), where she lived part of her childhood, and from Mediterranean France, where she has spent the rest of her life.
The inks stand out powerfully and give the sample its name. Formats of various sizes for a light support, Canson paper, as a tribute to this ancient technique, ink, but rejuvenated and modernized in an amalgam of figurative lines tending to abstraction. Colored inks that, in her brushes, flow in a chromatic orgy at the service of a theme as old as man, femininity in its many aspects. With capital letters when dealing with the theme of motherhood, when it goes back to the cult of the Mother goddess, the Mediterranean Potnia Theron, and fertility, reminding us of the cave paintings of so many Neolithic sanctuaries. With apparent naivety, almost childish, in women’s meetings. The haman is the witness of these intimate scenes, a propitious space for troubles, confessions and confidence. With passion and sensuality when treating female sexuality as the culmination of the loving feeling.
